  • Warming up enhances performance: Getting the body warmed up increases blood flow and body temperature, boosting the benefits of any workout. Increased blood and oxygen to the muscles means better performance, and a higher temperature means that muscles can contract and relax faster.
  • Warming up may prevent injury: A brief warm up prepares the body for more strenuous exercise, minimizing the potential for muscle tears and other injuries. Again, increasing blood flow to the muscles better prepares them for the harder work to come.
  • Warming up slowly increasing heart rate: Warming up gets the heart pumping, and for good reason. Gradually preparing the cardiovascular system for an increase in activity helps prevent a sudden increase in blood pressure.
