There’s no doubt about it with our time and our schedules. Triangle residents living in and around Apex are very busy people! As one of the fastest growing areas in the entire country, the men, women, and children living in Apex, Cary, and beyond have a heavy schedule. Unfortunately, work, school, and social activities can get in the way of living a healthier lifestyle. Just because time is short doesn’t mean that there’s no room for a workout or for getting fit.
The Fit for Life 24 staff shares three favorite ways to squeeze in exercise, no matter how packed the day (or night) may seem:
- Conduct a time inventory: Take a couple of days to track daily activities, with the goal of learning exactly how each minute is spent. Often, spare time is hidden in small chunks throughout the day, making it easy to miss. While it will take some persistence, writing everything on paper helps people recognize downtime and times when a scheduling change is possible. Freeing up precious minutes can then be redirected towards exercise.
- Get comfortable with prioritizing: Everyone wants to be perfect, but it’s is never possible. When making exercise a priority, other things might drop down in terms of importance. Maybe the house isn’t spotless, or dinner isn’t made entirely from scratch. With realistic expectations, individuals give themselves the opportunity to focus on completing the most important tasks each day, whether that’s a workout session or something else.
- Rethink what “working out” means: When it comes to burning calories and building muscle, results are cumulative and every little bit counts. Find creative ways to sneak in exercise, whether it means doing calf “raises” while waiting in a checkout line (seriously, no one’s watching!) or a quick set of squats while on a conference call. Even though it may not feel strenuous, a little at a time is definitely better than nothing at all.
A beyond-busy schedule is one of the top excuses to avoid exercise that is often heard by our dedicated and professional personal trainers at Fit for Life 24 in Apex. Just because a full hour can’t be found doesn’t mean a workout can be skipped entirely. With a little creativity, even the busiest people can fit fitness into their day.
