It is the Holiday Season. Are you feeling like your core could use some attention yet? Your core is the most important part of your body, as it is the center of power and flexibility. You can always work on strengthening your core to help with back pain, bad posture, and a plethora of other ailments you may be experiencing. Maybe you just want to tone your stomach muscles, but can’t find time in your busy schedule to make it to the gym. Well here’s some info that might be able to help:

If you still find yourself hard-pressed to find time every day to come into Fit for Life 24, there are plenty of exercises and techniques you can perform at home to get your core firm and happy! Here are a few examples:
- Yoga: There are some very simple yoga poses you can practice at home to strengthen your core, no equipment required! Svanasana, or “Plank Pose,” is an easy way to engage your core muscles and strengthen them without need for weights. Simply hold yourself in the position you would get in to begin doing push-ups, with your toes on the ground, your arms extended and your back flat. This keeps your entire core engaged, and will strengthen it over time.
- Sit-ups or Crunches: Everyone knows that sit-ups will tone your abs, but a little variation can help define and strengthen your whole core! If you don’t have a partner to hold your feet, try tucking them under the couch! And instead of just raising straight up, try bending to the right or left — bringing your elbow to the opposite knee — to tone your obliques as well as your abs!
- Back Bridge: This straightforward exercise will tone your core without you breaking a sweat! All you need to do is lay on your back with your knees bent so that your heels are nearly touching your glutes, and lift your hips off the ground (so that from your knees to your neck, your body is in a straight line). This engages your core as well as tightening your lower back, and is very good for back pain and posture improvement.
