3 Tips that Help with Fit for Life 24 Apex Workout Routines

Fitness, Ambro, FDPThe decision has been made; a commitment to a healthy lifestyle and a membership at Fit for Life 24 of Apex. Now what? Our fitness experts and personal trainers recommend creating a workout routine first.

However, there’s no universal routine that’s ideal for every one of our members. The challenging part is figuring out what to do and how to do it. No worries! We specialize in helping members create dynamic and effective workouts that are easy to maintain.

Our fitness experts at Fit for Life 24 in Apex NC recommend these three important tips when setting up a personal workout routine:

  • Determine Fitness Goals: Take a minute to think about how much time can be devoted to a good workout, and determine exactly what the goal will be. Is the goal to lose weight, maintain current physique, or training for a competition? Our 24-hour fitness center can accommodate any schedule and any goal members have in mind. Meet with one of our personal trainers on your first day to explore how we can help with desired results.
  • Add Variety to the Routine: When an exercise day becomes too routine, it can often be boring as well.  The most effective workouts include a bit of variety in order to keep the momentum going. For example, work different muscle groups in each session (core, quads and hamstrings, and upper body). Be sure to spread the routine over a few days each week and dedicate each day to a specific group. This will ensure variety in the workout and keep it from seeming repetitive.
  • Don’t Forget to Warm Up and Cool Down: When cooking a healthy roasted chicken, the process starts with preheating the oven.  A strenuous workout routine starts with a proper warm up as well. Stretching, mild aerobics, or fitness walking are excellent ways to prepare the body for a good workout. Cool down periods of stretching and relaxing are just as important, since a sudden stop with intense physical activity can have negative side effects.

The most important aspect of an effective workout routine is the individual FFL24 member. Stop by Fit for Life 24 Apex today to meet with one of our personal trainers and set up an individualized plan!

3 Advantages of Joining Fit for Life 24 in Apex for Local Fitness

photostock ffl fdpWhen people in Apex and the Triangle make the decision to choose a healthy lifestyle, one of the first considerations is looking for the right gym or fitness center near the house. Although joining a gym is a big commitment, over time, the enthusiasm and drive to stay in shape might and often does decrease.  In the United States, 67% of gym memberships go unused after contracts are signed. Life gets in the way; maybe the gym isn’t conveniently located, or perhaps the facility isn’t the best fit.

For fitness-minded folks in the Triangle, the staff at Fit for Life 24 in Apex wants to ensure that those looking for a local gym know what to consider before making any long-term commitments.

3 clear advantages to choosing Fit for Life 24 in Apex:

  • The excellence of the FFL 24 personal trainers: Lots of people enjoy taking group fitness classes. It’s great when people share a common goal and can embark on a fitness journey together. An important consideration is who leads the class. Are they knowledgeable and professional? Do they encourage members to achieve their goals? Sometimes instructors and staff may not be the friendliest, or perhaps they push too hard. When seeking a gym for group fitness, think about the quality of FFL24.
  • Personal workout times are any time, any day: We all have busy lives, so 24 hour fitness centers are the best since they accommodate all schedules. For individuals who work out during a specific time of day, check out FFL 24. Review our classes on our website; check out our modern floor equipment. Remember, the time to work out fits any and every schedule.
  • Our members love Fit for Life 24: To really get a good feel for our gym, ask one of our members what they think and like. Whatever is the most important part of a gym experience, our FFL24 members will be able to share what they like about our convenience and our welcoming facility.

Choosing a gym doesn’t need to be an overwhelming task, but it can be an enjoyable experience! At Fit for Life 24 in Apex, we have group classes, personal trainers, high-quality equipment and more, all at an affordable price. Three Innocent Diet Mistakes That Impact Fit for Life 24 Goals

burger kek064For many of our members here in Apex and around the Triangle, adopting a healthy lifestyle that focuses on personal fitness orbits around going to Fit for Life 24 for a good workout. However, a healthy diet is an important variable that impacts fitness goals no matter how much time is spent at the gym. There are important dietary choices that should be considered if the goal is to lose weight and gain energy, such as limiting sugar intake and avoiding high-calorie beverages. In addition to these considerations, our team wants to share a few other factors that can impact personal fitness goals. The committed and enthusiastic personal trainers at Fit for Life 24 of Apex want both current and potential members to be healthy all of the time.

We offer three common, innocent mistakes that can impact personal fitness goals:

  • Skipping Meals: Many dieters may skip meals in order to reduce calorie intake. However, this can throw off the body’s natural eating and fasting rhythm, especially if breakfast is skipped. Research has shown that people who eat breakfast typically weigh less than those who don’t. When meals are skipped, the body will store any calories taken in to be utilized as energy later, since it’s not certain when more food will be consumed.
  • Oversized Portions: Many restaurants load-up plates with delicious offerings. It is tempting to do the same when cooking and preparing meals at home. A few smart solutions to this problem are to use smaller plates and bowls when serving meals, check portions with measuring cups when cooking, and stop eating when full.
  • Unhealthy Add-Ons: Even when choosing a salad for lunch or dinner, be mindful of high-fat toppings such as bacon, cheese, croutons, and creamy dressings. Also, when it comes to fast-food, “healthier” options may turn out to be less than desired. A McDonald’s Caesar Salad with crispy chicken and creamy dressing totals a whopping 520 calories, while a Quarter Pounder contains 90 calories less, 410.

These seemingly innocent mistakes can easily derail even the most fitness-focused person. The personal trainers at Fit for Life 24 of Apex are dedicated to helping every member in Apex and the Triangle  achieve a healthy lifestyle, and we offer personalized plans to reach those fitness goals. Contact us or stop by today to begin the journey!

6 Simple Tips to Stop “Body Sabotage” on Vacation

SilhouettesBikingOnBeach.FDP.arztsamuiSummer is a popular season across the Triangle for taking vacations. While it’s exciting to travel to new places, over indulging, sedentary days can lead to weight gain. We all know what Thanksgiving and Christmas are like. For those FFL members who have worked so hard at Fit for Life 24 to get into a good fitness routine this year, vacation weight gains can be frustrating. Fortunately, there are ways to enjoy a vacation without sacrificing health or increasing the waist size.

From the team at Fit for Life 24 Apex, members can avoid “body sabotage” this summer these six common-sense and simple tips for preventing vacation weight-grain:

  • Pack your snacks: It can be tempting to stop at various fast food restaurants to refuel during a trip and even more tempting to stock up on candy and chips at gas stations or airport terminals. Avoid this transportation-induced pitfall by packing healthy meals and snacks ahead of time. Not only will this save our members calories, it will save them money that they can spend on other vacation luxuries later. For healthy snack ideas, check out this great article from Back to Her Roots.
  • Plan outings that require activity: Don’t make the mistake of thinking that relaxation needs to be driven by a whole lot of nothing; unplug from work or social media, and get outside somewhere new and scenic. Explore a zoo or an aquarium, go kayaking, or walk around a mall. On the coast? Take a stroll along the shoreline and look for shells. In the mountains? Look for great hiking locations. Feeling competitive? There may even be fun races to sign up for that aren’t offered where you live.
  • Utilize a hotel’s fitness center: Many hotels have fitness rooms. Pack some workout clothes, and take advantage of this amenity. Get a workout in early if you know the day will consist of inactivity, and enjoy the flood of endorphins! Plus, sticking to the routine of getting exercise will make it easier to jump back into your fitness regimen Fit for Life 24 after returning home.
  • Get a fitness tracker: Logging fitness is an excellent motivator. Competing with friends while tracking physical activity can be good incentive to maintain or surpass the level of fitness tracked while at home.
  • Understand menu lingo: While on vacation, people eat out much more than they typically would at home. Because restaurant food is often higher in calories, fat, and sodium; it’s important to be able to decode some of the lingo used on the menu. Check out these tips from Reader’s Digest and WebMD to be able to order a meal that best fits your health needs.
  • Practice balance: Vacations are meant to be enjoyed. Balance the higher-calorie option at dinner with a walk and lighter dessert. Choosing to savor an indulgent dessert? Grab a lighter dinner, or split it with a friend to enjoy the treat without sacrificing the calories. Avoiding weight gain while enjoying the cuisine of a new place is possible with balance.

Fit for Life 24 wishes all of its members safe, relaxing vacations this summer season. What fitness tips do our members have while on vacation? Comment below or let us know on our Facebook page!

3 Ways Stretching Ensures Health for Fit for Life 24

WomanStretching-StockImages-FDPIt’s no secret here in the Triangle and across Apex that getting into a good workout routine is great for one’s health. Our members at Fit for Life 24 in Apex experience many benefits of cardio and strength training. From treadmills and our elliptical trainers, to our daily fitness classes and weight-lifting, there are many ways to get results at Fit for Life 24. While working toward goals, members should also keep in mind the benefits and the importance of stretching.

Fit for Life 24 offers three ways stretching creates positive effects on the body, mind, and overall performance:

  • Increases range of motion: Tight muscles can limit range of motion. Getting into a good routine of stretching will boost one’s flexibility and allow movements to feel more fluid. While there is debate on whether or not stretching before and after exercise prevents injury, Fit Day reports that the flexibility gained from stretching is helpful for one’s balance and coordination, two key components of fitness!
  • Improves posture: If muscles are constantly tense, it can lead to poor posture. Strengthening the back and shoulders can certainly help to improve posture, and stretching may also benefit our members looking to improve their posture by keeping the back in better alignment.
  • Decreases stress: Give the tense muscles from stress and work some relief with just 10-15 minutes of stretching. Take a moment to be mindful of where there is tenseness, and then focus on those areas when stretching. Be sure to breathe normally, and feel the body’s tension ease.

Stretching helps the body feel its best; but it’s not recommended to kick start one’s workout. While it may seem counterintuitive to those who have heard otherwise, the Mayo Clinic cautions people to avoid stretching as a warm-up. Instead, “warm up [to stretching] with light walking, jogging or biking at low intensity for five to 10 minutes.” Stretching can also be done following a workout.

Need more motivation to stretch? Work it into the monthly Fit for Life 24 fitness schedule. Incorporate stretching into daily routines, and soon many of our members will notice increased range of motion, improved posture, and decreased stress.

Four Great Tips to Eat Healthy from Fit for Life 24 in Apex

SaladFDPtiramisustudioMany fitness enthusiasts across the Triangle are getting into a good routine of exercise at Fit for Life 24 in Apex. The American Heart Association encourages this heart-strong habit. While exercising and working out are great ways to get in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to eat well. In order to accomplish a healthy weight goal that supports the body properly, it is important to do it right.

Instead of fad dieting, it is important to understand how different foods fuel the body and embrace the energy that good nutrition offers. Of course, eating well doesn’t mean Fit for Life 24 members have to sacrifice enjoying their favorite foods. Adopting healthy habits regarding nutrition boils down to balance and knowledge.

Seeking to complement your FFL24 routine with healthy food habits? Try out these four important tips:

  • Understand the body’s needs. What’s healthy for one person may not be healthy for another. Whether diabetic or anemic, have celiac disease or are lactose intolerant; there are many different needs for different bodies. Be sure to discuss nutrition with a doctor; and make healthy choices based on needs.
  • Learn to read food labels. Once FFL24 members know what their bodies need, it’s important to understand food labels beyond the calorie count. This resource from the FDA is a great tool for fully comprehending all the numbers on the back of everything that gets put in the cart.
  • Seek balance. Don’t stress about eating a perfectly “clean” and healthy meal every time. The Mayo Clinic reports, “If indulgence is the exception rather than the rule, you’ll balance things out over the long term. What’s important is that you eat healthy foods most of the time.” Learn how to make healthy swaps in order to maintain this balance.

Let us know what you do to eat well and stay fit. Our personal trainers are always focused on needs and wants!

4 Tips from Fit for Life 24 to Lessen the Tension

StressedOutFDPaechanDeadlines, finances, busy schedules, kids, pets, and life-changing events are just a few causes of stress for Apex professionals. Among the pressures and strains, be sure to find the time to relieve stress in a healthy and beneficial way. Poorly managed stress and mental challenges can have negative effects on the body. For example, stress can be a critical factor in high blood pressure, increasing the likelihood for a heart attack. It can cause backaches, and make the immune system less efficient (Healthline). Fitness and exercise are excellent ways to practice self-care during life’s stressful seasons. It improves sleep, releases endorphins, and boosts one’s confidence (Mayo Clinic).

Our team at Fit for Life 24 wants stress reduced in everyone’s schedule. We offer four common sense tips to de-stress here in Apex and across the Triangle:

  • Prioritize: In a busy schedule, it may be hard to find time to work out. Look at where available time is and then plan when it is good for a workout. For example, if watching TV has become an evening routine, it may be more beneficial to use that time to exercise. The blue lights emitted from the screen may hinder one’s sleep while a workout will improve
  • Get competitive: Invest in a fitness tracker or set goals for yourself that are personal trainer approved. Fitness trackers allow users to compete with friends for steps. Challenge friends for motivation to visit our gym; it will help the stress melt away. Setting goals can be another way to look forward to a workout. Having trouble determining what goals to set? Schedule a session with one of our FFL24 personal trainers to get started.
  • Workout with other members: Catching up with people at FFL24 and doing things together are great ways to boost heart rate and release endorphins. The American Heart Association states spending time with friends and exercising on its list of activities that help reduce stress; working out with other members really helps!
  • Break it up: If going to Fit for Life 24 five days a week isn’t a possibility, don’t stress. Go for a walk with a coworker at lunch. Stroll with the kids or a spouse after dinner to unwind. Breaking workouts into shorter intervals. This strategy is an effective way to release those endorphins in spite of a busy schedule.

How do you fit a workout into a busy week? Let us know on our Facebook page!

4 Ways to Sleep Better for Fitness and Weight Loss

dominici fdpMany of our membership at Fit for Life 24 in Apex, who are seeking the best health priorities, have often read that getting enough sleep each night is vital for a long life and better lifestyle. It is no coincidence that even the most popular fit tracker apps offer a category for hours slept. Sleep has many benefits, from fighting off hunger cravings to burning a little fat; there are a ton of advantages some Z’s. If sleeping through the night is an issue, there are many proactive steps our FFL members can take to improve their quality of sleep.

Get your best-night’s slumber with these four helpful tips for Fit for Life 24 members:

  • Limit screen time before bed: While people may find unwinding with their favorite show relaxing, watching TV should not be part of one’s bedtime routine. From tablets and smartphones to TVs, the light people are exposed to from screens reduces the body’s melatonin which helps people sleep. It’s not necessary to completely give up a favorite show—just be sure to enjoy it earlier in the evening; make reading a good book, journaling, or listening to soothing music part of a healthy bedtime routine.
  • Keep bedtime predictable: Many new parents are given this advice to help their babies sleep through the night. It works for adults, too. Going to bed at the same time each night, including special occasions and weekends, is important for maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. Each night before bed, get into the routine of doing the same thing; this process ensures that proper relaxation and the best results. Routine is important because it signals to the body that it’s the right time for rest.
  • Get active: Working out at Fit for Life 24 in Apex on a regular basis has many benefits, and a better night’s rest is one of them! Getting physical activity every day contributes to a deeper sleep and it also allows the body to fall asleep faster. For best results, don’t work out before trying to fall asleep since it gives the body an increase in energy.
  • Control stress: Just as your head hits the pillow, all those anxious thoughts and things-to-do rush to the brain, and these thoughts can really wreck a good night’s sleep. Don’t let these stresses sabotage sleep any longer. It’s important to manage stress. One way to accomplish this goal is to get organized. If things overwhelm the day, catch up with someone who can make you laugh. It is normal to over worry at times and it is perfectly okay to do so. Have as piece of paper and a pen by the nightstand and create a to-do list for the morning. After it is done, simply set it aside and allow peace and the opportunity to rest. It is also important to note that well-rested people are more productive! If stress seems unmanageable, or it is truly a chronic problem to sleep, contact a professional for some direction and guidance.

Good sleep and good fitness go hand-in-hand. Our professional personal trainers can suggest a number of routines, many in a group session, that allow just the right exercises to keep our FFL 24 members sleep at night. Health, regular exercise, smart nutrition, good relationships, and hard work all combine to create the opportunity for both rest and relaxation. Remember together they make for better health and a longer life.

Call us today to join! We would love to have you in the family!

5 Injury Prevention Tips That Fit for Life 24 Members Can Follow

nenetus, fdpSometimes, soreness from well-worked muscles feels good. The soreness is often a reminder of the hard work put into a FFL 24 member’s exercise routine. It’s a sign that the body is getting stronger. Unfortunately, sometimes pain after a workout may also be an indicator of injury. Injuries are frustrating because they can put exercise enthusiasts on the bench and break a good workout streak. Luckily, there are ways to prevent common workout-related injuries.

To stay in shape and avoid possible injury, follow these five important tips for avoiding injury while at Fit for Life 24 in Apex:

  • Start with a simple warmup: Before kicking one’s workout up to high-intensity, it’s important that a proper warmup is done. This action allows the body to prepare for the workout ahead. Do not neglect this integral part of the FFL 24 workout. It may take a few extra minutes, but it will spare the pain of injury. Walking at a moderate pace or lightly jogging before a run are good places to start. For more warmup tips, check out this helpful list from Greatist.
  • Workout with one of our Fit for Life 24 Personal Trainers: Weary of all the equipment in our gym? It is important not to make working out a guessing game. Schedule an appointment with one of our trainers while learning the advantages of each machine. Understanding how to operate each piece of equipment. It will help our members avoid injury from misuse and give them confidence to use everything Fit for Life 24 in Apex has to offer. Not only is it important to understand how to use each machine, our trainers will also help members learn and maintain correct form while operating the equipment. Finally, the trainers are great at setting up a personalized workout routine, so those looking to get in shape can do so at a pace that’s just right for them.
  • Listen to the body: This is a common injury-prevention tip, and for good reason! Never ignore pain when working out. Now, what does this mean exactly? The Huffington Post consulted with a doctor to help answer the question “How Do I Know When To Stop ‘Pushing Through The Pain’ During My Workout? It is important to start listening to what the body is telling us. This article is worth the read.
  • Rest and recovery (R&R): There are two types of fitness recovery, short and long-term. Immediately following vigorous exercise, it’s important to cool down and stretch. It’s also vital to get enough sleep. Long-term recovery includes adhering to a training schedule that allows the body to rest through adjusting personal workouts types, and all the physical and mental changes in intensity, time, an d distance. Cross-training is also popular for those seeking to prevent injury.

What adjustments are FFL 24 Apex members making in their fitness routines to prevent injury?  Let us know on our Facebook page!

3 Great Ways to Get in Shape for Spring and Summer

GroupStrengthTrainingFDPThere has been a wonderful surge of warmer weather in Apex, North Carolina of late; and it’s starting to feel like spring again in the Triangle. Some flowers and trees have started blooming, and stores are swapping out winter clothes for summer trends. While this is a great time to take advantage of that winter collection, it is also the best time to kick your Fit for Life 24 workout into high gear! Remember, spring break and warm weather vacations are just around the corner. Getting in shape isn’t just about the physique; it’s about feeling good, too.

Enjoy your most-confident spring break yet with these three tips of motivation because getting in shape is what it is all about at Fit for Life 24 in Apex:

  • Get motivated: Many Apex and Triangle residents are goal-oriented. Goals aren’t just for school and work, though! Feeling a slump in motivation at the gym? Sign up for a 5K. This is the perfect time of year to participate in an outdoor competition, so check out the races scheduled across the Triangle. These races help a variety of causes, so sign up to stay fit and help others while doing it. Need extra motivation? Invite co-workers to participate, and get competitive with your workout. Trainers at Fit for Life 24 in Apex are qualified to help members make the most of these experiences.
  • Spring clean that workout routine: Fitting exercise into one’s routine is very important. If members at Fit for Life 24 are tired of the same-old, same-old; invite a friend to the gym or join a group fitness class. Make this time exciting by getting social or challenging friends to a new class or piece of equipment at the gym. Members are amazed at the results when their bodies are given new challenges. Be sure to consult a Fit for Life 24 team member before handling new equipment to prevent injury, and always listen to your body.
  • Get strong: The American Heart Association recommends “at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least five days per week” or “at least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity three days per week; or a combination of moderate-and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity.” The American Heart Association also recommends that this cardiovascular workout is combined with strength training. Their recommendation is “moderate-to-high intensity muscle-strengthening activity at least two days per week.” While getting in shape for the spring and summer, be sure your fitness routine includes strength and cardio for best results for body and heart health.

Planning on getting in shape for spring break and the hot months of summer? Let us know where your travels will take you and how you’re staying motivated on our Facebook page.
